My son and I recently went to a park to walk and play Pokemon Go. We’ve been there many times and watched the geese walk on solid ice, watched tiny baby ducklings take splashes with their mommas in the spring, and even watched from afar as a few weddings took place in a lovely gazebo that’s there for community use.
This particular day, though, the geese were all going head down, tail feathers up, looking below the surface of the water. Clearly they were having success in their endeavors, because it was a move they made over and over again.
I’ve been listening to a few podcasters for about half a year now, and they are both in the life coach category. Both encourage their listeners to genuinely pay attention to their thoughts and to look below the surface of their emotions to get to the heart of their whys.
What am I thinking right now?
Why am I choosing to think this?
What else might be the case? I am interpreting it to be ___, but what if it’s ___?
This feels like a problem, but what opportunities does it present?
What can I do today to go to bed tonight feeling both proud and successful?
What if you’ve been entrusted with this challenge, not cursed by it?
I was not a podcast listener until I discovered Corinne Crabtree, and through her, Brooke Castillo of The Life Coach School. I’m glad I looked below the surface of podcasting as venting and storytelling to find these gems!
